The reduction of flow that can pass consequence rising the density of traffic before blocking, so the speed of vehicles down or become queue. The motion of difference density and flow call shoch wave. Shock wave can be seen at the blocking so the queue take place, or queue break if blocking lost. Queue cause suffer a finance, time and enviromental. Blocking at the roadway can take place intentional ( at road work) or not intentional ( accident ). Blocking can close full or part of road. If flow of traffic lower than capacity of the road at blocking, the que not take palce, but wil be reduce more velocity, otherwise if the flow grather than capacity of the road at blocking, the queue take place. The length of queue wil be longger and longger if the flow of traffic as same as the capacity of road. The investigation in Yogyakarta at North Ring Road and Kali Urang Road (Monumen Yogya Kembali and Puma Budaya intersection), with siclus time 100 seconds, 25 seconds green, 3 seconds amber and 71 seconds red; the ability of siclus time to pass traffic flow is 1000 pcuph. This value is resulted from relationship between flow and density diagram with Greenshields method. The investigation of flow and speed for freeway at Jakarta - Cikampek Toliway ( 4 lane 2 way divided ), with Greenshields, greenberg and Underwood methode, result average capacity 2300 pcuph ( lane width 3.60 m ). For example if flow is 3000 pcu, there is a blocking one lane, the queue will run with speed 1,703 km/h or with other word the shock wave velocity is 1,703 km/h backward; the queue will increase 271 meters every 5 minutes. If the both lane blocking, the speed of queue is 7,895 km/h from direction Jakarta ( shock wave velocity 7,895 km/h backward or the length of queue increase 1287 meters every 5 minutes. For direction from Cikampek, the speed of queue is 5,736 km/h or shock wave velocity is 5,736 km/h backward; the length of queue increase 1018 meters every 5 minutes. This examples above is analysed by Greenberg methode. From this examples we know that caracteristic of shock wave very important for operational traffic menagement of freeways text |
