Hypothetically, biostratigraphy can use as a tool to identify a sequence. <br /> <br /> A case study has been done to find out how the relation between biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy. The area studied located in Northwest Java Basin (low latitude area) and the sequence has been deposited in littoral to deep marine environmental setting within range Middle Miocene to Late Pliocene age. <br /> <br /> The result indicates that main role biostratigraphy within sequence stratigraphy is to dating the age and paleoenvironment. Biostratigraphy as a tool seems to be influenced by the environment where the sediments are deposited. In shallow marine, even the age resolution is not too good but the sequence boundary and MFS surfaces are easy to identify. The other way, in deep marine setting biostratigraphy can well use to dating age and identify the condensed section which associate with MFS. Parameters such as abundance and diversity, oxygen minimum zone which mentioned can be used as a tool to identify the condensed section are not fully applicable, only in open marine and normal salinity condition these parameter can be used. text |
