Biomass is one of the natural resources that can be utilized as renewable energy. Indonesia is a country that has many sources of biomass, but the utilization of biomass in Indonesia has not been done optimally. One of the utilization of biomass is to produce biogas.

Biogas is a gas produced from the decomposition of organic matter under anaerobic conditions by a bacteria decomposers. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fish meal addition on COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and VFA (Volatile Fatty Acid) parameters in biogas production.

This research covers the production process of biogas from cow dung. The reactor used is a 2000 liter made from fiberglass material with semi-continuous reactor system. The feed used in the form of cow dung as much as 10 kg and mixed with 10 kg of water, with the addition of fish meal from 0-200 gram. Operating temperature of reactor is 27oC. The parameters measured were COD, VFA, and the volume of biogas formed.

From the research conducted, on the 7th day the addition of fish meal amount 25 gram, 50 gram, 75 gram, 100 gram, 150 gram, and 200 gram, yield biogas as 138,3 liter, 169 liter, 186 liter, 222 liter, 169 liter, and 70 liter. The highest production is in the addition of 100 gram fish meal. The result of VFA parameters are 60 mM, 80mM, 80mM, 100mM, 130mM, and 150mM. The result of COD parameters are 3728 mg / l, 4108 mg / l, 3286 mg / l, 3476 mg / l, 3096 mg / l, 2528 mg / l. text
