ADDITION OF RESOURCE-BASED AND VALUE-BASED EXTENSIONS FOR ARCHIMATE
Resource and value modeling help the enterprise to optimize resources in achieving value. Enterprise architecture can be used to model resources and values. Archimate is one of the standard enterprise architecture modeling languages that has elements to model the values and resources. However, the r...

In this thesis, resource and value concepts on Archimate are evaluated and redesigned by conducting an ontological analysis of both concepts. Unified Foundational Ontology (UFO) is used as a semantic basis in conducting an ontological analysis. An ontological analysis was carried out by considering the mapping between modeling construct and concept in the ontology. The results of the ontological analysis are the identification of semantic problems. The solutions to these problems are made and then used to modify extensions that have resource and value concepts. The results of the modification are two new extensions and both extensions are the results of this study. The resulting extension consists of the metamodel, relation and modeling elements. <br />

The resulting extension is evaluated against the principle of customization and the problems found when the ontological analysis is carried out. The results of the evaluation against the principle of customization show that the principles of customization of the Archimate modeling language have been met by extensions. Extensions evaluation of conceptual problems is done by comparing models made with extensions and models made without extensions. The results of the evaluation show that the models created using extensions are able to handle conceptual issues that cannot be handled by models created without using extensions. |
