In Indonesia, the study of pedestrian-friendly environmental relationships with physical activity behavior and public health is very limited, thus, this research is an important study concidering the high mortality from non-communicable diseases which one of the causes is due to the lack of physical activity. Adequate and regular activity at least 150 minutes per week can decrease the risk factors for overweight and obesity, hypertension and increased blood sugar and blood lipids that trigger heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.

The research aims is to see asosiation between characteristics of physical activity behavior patterns and public health based on the level of environmental friendliness for pedestrians in Margahayu Raya Housing Bandung. The research method using quantitative method with purpose of the research type is explorative. The research was conducted in two different environments, that is in a residential environment that tended to be more pedestrian-friendly and a less pedestrian-friendly environment and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results show that there are differences in the behavior of physical activity of the active community among residential neighborhoods that tend to be more pedestrian-friendly (Margahayu A) and those not (Margahayu B). However, the number is not much different, only 32 respondents in Margahayu A are active walking and 34 respondents in Margahayu B are active walking, therefore built environment is not asociated yet with physical aktivity behavior. Also known from some active respondents on walking, 11 of them with excess Body Mass Index (overweight and obesity) in Margahayu A, while in Margahayu B 15 respondents. From the results of the research found that the housing neighborhoods has not affected the behavior of physical activity. The analysis of the relationship between environment and health with walking, cycling, and exercise behavior is very weak, but has a positive relationship between cycling behavior with the environment and health and sports behavior with the environment. text
