WEAVING TECHNIQUE EXPLORATION USING MENDONG FIBER ON HANDBAGS

One of the handicrafts that are usually found in Tasikmalaya is mendong fiber. This <br /> <br /> fiber is commonly use because of its advantages such as the texture is flexible, the <br /> <br /> color is shiny and the fiber is strong. Until now, mendong fiber is only applied to <br /> <br /> products such as mats, containers, and placemat. Weaving technique is one of the <br /> <br /> technique that is use to make mendong fiber crafts. Products made from the weaving <br /> <br /> are still considered less innovation with its monotonous design. <br /> <br /> In addition to the products design, mendong weaving motifs produced in Tasikmalaya <br /> <br /> are also underdeveloped and have a lot of potential in the development of its motives. <br /> <br /> Seeing this, mendong weaving can be developed in terms of color, style, size, and <br /> <br /> application of its products. One application of weaving mendong, which is considered <br /> <br /> the most potential, is through fashion accessories products. Products of fashion <br /> <br /> accessories such as bags, is one product that can attract the attention of the younger <br /> <br /> generation. <br /> <br /> With this knowledge base, conducting the exploration of mendong weaving which <br /> <br /> refers to the previous woven motif is considered to provide an opportunity to advance <br /> <br /> the woven mendong craft. Development of the weaving motif that will be applied to <br /> <br /> the fashion accessories products, in the form of bags so as to increase public interest <br /> <br /> in mendong loom.
