Exploration of textile products has now expanded beyond the conventional realms.

One of the textile media capable of producing more varied exploration of textile

product is water soluble stabilizer. Water soluble stabilizer is used as fabric stabilizer

during embroidery process. This medium has water soluble properties so embroidery

made directly above it can form a structural embroidery.

Water soluble stabilizer has been used to create cutwork embroidery creations for

over thirty years in Germany and in America. Cutwork is a hollow or perforated

embroidered creations. In Indonesia embroidery as it is known as ‘krancang’

embroidery and still perforated with scissors or solder. The use of water soluble

stabilizer can be applied to develop the creation of krancang embroidery and

structural embroidery to make applicable textiles on fashion products.

This final project begins with an observation about the basic technique of manual

machine embroidery in Bandung, continued by further observation and exploration in

Tasikmalaya as the center of embroidery craftsmen who create many ‘krancang’

embroidery. Basic exploration of embroidery techniques on the water soluble

stabilizer that can form the fabric structure is done in both locations. Then, fashion

products references based on the trend forecast of 2019-2020 by Badan Ekonomi

Kreatif with the theme of Svarga are collected, which is then used to create mood

board. Proceed to the final product design and sketches consists of five bags and two

top aimed at women from upper middle class, with bold fashion style, and have a high

appreciation towards tradition and its development. Furthermore, the production of

textiles with structural embroidery techniques on the water soluble stabilizer in

accordance with the sketches are made. The last stage is to apply the textile to the

final product in accordance with the design that has been made.

It is hoped that this final project can produce the right embroidery techniques to be

done on the water soluble stabilizer that is useful to simplify and develop the

creations of ‘krancang’ embroidery creations and can produce textiles using various

development of structural embroidery techniques. |
