The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of iron sand mining on soil physical and chemical conditions related to the opening of land cover. Data retrieval uses a path method of 4 points in the disturbed area which includes 4 types of land cover, namely grasslands, shrubs, rice fields, and acacia stands, and 1 point on the natural coastal forest of Cijeruk, C.A. Leuweung Sancang as a comparison. The results showed that the bulk density on the Ciandum coast was higher than the natural coastal forest (BD 1.27: 0.5 g.cm-1). This shows that the land on the coast of Ciandum solidified due to iron sand mining. Likewise with the degree of soil acidity (pH 7: 6.7). The soil texture in the Ciandum beach is sandy, while in the comparison region is sandy clay. This results in the ability of the soil in Ciandum beach to absorb water and nutrients tends to decrease. Soil chemical properties generally in degraded areas are lower than natural coastal forests, including Organic C (0.505: 10.04%), N (0.575: 1.14%), K (19,325: 88.0 mg.100g-1), P (188,265 : 62.2 mg.100g-1), and CEC (7.1625: 56.62 cmol.kg-1). This shows that the more open land, the physical and chemical properties of the soil are decreasing.

text
