Summary: | Hydroponics systems, especially Nutrient Film Technique, are often used as the

solution of land shortage problem. Hydroponic systems usually use a nutritional

solution made from inorganic mixture commonly knowed as AB solution. Efforts of

looking for the alternative solutions of AB are being studied. An example of product

that can be used is the leachate solution of bioconvertion of vegetables and fruit waste

by Black Soldier Fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens larvae. The objective of this study was

to compare between the effects of different concentration of leachate as hydroponic

nutrition on the quality content of tatsoi, Brassica rapa var. Narinosa, especially

vitamin C content, fiber content, and consumer perceptions. The treatment of 100%

mixed AB solution, mixture of AB and leachate, and the leachate ex BSF 100%

nutrition were used as the NFT nutrient for tatsoi. The results showed that highest

vitamin C content of B. rapa var. Narinosa’s leaves was found in the 100% leachate

solution (163,353 mg/100 g), while the highest vitamin C content in stem was found in

the 60% AB : 40% leachate and 100% leachate solution (35,506 mg/100 g). In addition,

the highest content of fiber in stem and leaves of tatsoi was found in 60% AB : 40%

leachate solution with the values of 0,93% and 1,82%. The consumer perception test

(colour, texture, crispiness, taste, and the visual quality) analyzed by Friedman method

showed that the consumer tend to like tatsoi with the treatment of 60% AB : 40%

leachate. It is assumed that the leachate ex BSF solution gives the effect of additional

nitrogen element on the hydroponic solution that can increase the vitamin C content of

tatsoi. Based on the research, it is concluded that the composition of 60% AB : 40%

leachate solution can be used as the alternative nutrition for NFT system to increase

the production of tatsoi. |
