Summary: | Within a growing population, environmental pollution has become one of the issue that emerged in a high density area. One of the sanitation infrastructure that has to be emphasized as the impact of population density, exclusively in urban areas, is wastewater. The percentage of household with toilet as primary access for waste water in Kabupaten Garut still remains low, 56%. Moreover, the percentage of household with on-site wastewater treatment system, using septic tank, is around 5% while National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2015-2019 mandated 100% of sanitation access in 2019. Therefore, an off-site or centralized wastewater treatment system through wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is needed. By this wastewater treatment system (WWTP), it is going to be expected to prevent environmental pollution caused by domestic wastewater in Kecamatan Tarogong Kidul and Kecamatan Tarogong Kaler. Tarogong domestic wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) that will be build is located at Kelurahan Sukasenang, Kecamatan Tarogong Kaler. This WWTP consists of two stages of development with ten-year period for each stage, while the service area of the wastewater treatment covers two districts (kecamatan) and ten villages (kelurahan). WWTP is designed to serve 70.497 people (the level of service is 50%) at the first stage and 123.599 people (the level of service is 75%) at the second stage. Tarogong wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) can not serve the whole 100% due to topographic conditions which do not allow for a gravity sistem. Tarogong’s WWTP capacity reaches 22393 m3/day at the first stage and will increase to 32442 m3/day at the second stage. The quality parameters of the wastewater that want to be set aside in accordance with Peraturan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup No. 68 Tahun 2016 includes BOD, COD, TSS, oil and grease, ammonia and total coliform. Types of processing used in this wastewater treatment plant are biological processing and physical processing. Selection of biological treatment was based on technical, economic, and environment consideration. Based on the review of technical, operational, economic, and environmental aspects, Contact Stabilization has the highest score among other alternatives. |
