Summary: | Jawer kotok leaves (Plectranthus scutellarioides (L.) R.Br., Lamiaceae) traditionally used for treatment of

hemorrhoid, diabetes, fever, diarrhea, late menstruation and abscess. Researches and publications

regarding the chemical compounds of jawer kotok leaves were still limited, so the aim of this research was

to isolate the main flavonoid compound of jawer kotok leaves (Plectranthus scutellarioides (L.) R.Br.)

obtained from Botanical Garden Manoko, Lembang, West Bandung. The crude drug of jawer kotok leaves

was extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol. Furthermore, ethanol extract was concentrated, added

with some hot water and filtered before being fractionated by liquid-liquid extraction using n-hexane and

ethyl acetate solvent respectively. Based on the monitoring of the chromatogram pattern, the water

fraction was chosen for separation and purification process using preparative paper chromatography. The

characterization of isolate was carried out using UV-visible spectrophotometery with several reagents. The

isolate obtained has absorption peaks at 268 nm and 328 nm which was suspected to be flavone groups

with 4’-OH.
