melinjo seed hyperuricemia male rats model Methods: Induction was performed by giving high purine diet, melinjo seed crude drug of 4.5 g/kg bw. Allopurinol and probenecid were used as standard to decrease uric acid levels by using strip test and uv-vis spectrophotometry methods. Ethanol extracts of melinjo leaves and melinjo peel were administered in 3 doses. Results: Induction by melinjo seed Crude drug 4.5 g/kg bw could increase uric acid level after 9 days. Two methods could be used to determine uric acid levels. Allopurinol and probenecid could be used to validate antihyperuricemia essay. Ethanol leaves extract of melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) 36 mg/kg bw could decrease uric acid levels up to 61.04%, <br />

while ethanol peel extract of melinjo 13 mg/kg bw can decrease uric acid levels up to 31.25%. Conclusions: Melinjo seed crude drug could be used as hyperuricemic inductor. The two methods gave similar results. Ethanol leaves and peel extracts of melinjo could decrease uric acid levels. <br />
