Description
Summary:<p align="justify">Road traffic accidents are worlwide major problems. The greatest percentage of loss of property even death in accidents is contributed by road traffic accidents. Rather than finding the real cause, the accidents are often regarded as blaming the victims paradigm, which blames the human negligence of either the driver, passenger, or pedestrian. If it is viewed from the side of the road network that is dynamic, uncertain, and complex system influenced by human, technology, and environment, road traffic accidents can occur due to various factors. Associated with environmental factors, road geometric and facilities are important factors that must be considered to improve traffic safety. This study aims to analyze the incidence of road traffic accidents based on road geometric and facilities, so that it can be discovered whether road geometric and facilities have an effect on the accidents at black spots. This study was conducted in Garut Regency, because based on road accidents data in 2015 by Traffic Unit of West Java Police, Garut Regency was ranked as fourth number of accidents contributor in West Java Province which has specific characteristic road consisting of climb, derivative, and winding roads with relatively small road width. The research method used is descriptive method with qualitative research approach. The data source in this study is heterogeneous, in the form of road traffic accidents data from 2012 until 2016 as many as 2.259 accidents. In order to make the heterogeneous accidents data become homogeneous, grouping is undertaken based on the typology of accidents data related to road geometric and function. This can be a differentiator of this study with previous studies, since the study is conducted at location points that could be more comprehensively describes the road geometric consisting of the location on straight-flat roads, straight-slope roads, curve-straight roads, and curve-slope roads. Factors analyzed from the geometric side are cross sectional factors, alignment factors, and visibility factors, while from the side of the road facilities are the placement and arrangement of street lighting, traffic signs, road markings, and road safety fences. The result of this study is road geometric and facilities have an effect on road traffic accidents at black spots in Garut Regency. In consequence, the results can be useful for stakeholders related to road geometric and facilities, to evaluate road infrastructure particularly related to road geometric and facilities, so that it can be a basis for traffic safety improvement. <p align="justify"> <br />
