Summary:Kabau (Archidendron microcarpum) is a plant native to South Sumatera. This plant was selected to <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> be studied because it had never been studied before. The goal of this research was to find and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> isolate its main chemical compund. The seed was dried and milled into powder. The dried powder <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> was then tested to determine its non-specific and specific properties. The dried powder was then <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> extracted starting from the least polar solvent to the most polar solvent. The order of the solvent <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> was n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. Every extraction was repeated three times to maximize <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> the amount of compound dissolved in the solvent, after that the extract was phytochemically <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> screened. The results of the test showed that the dried powder contained phenol, saponin, and <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> steroid-triterpenoid. The n-hexane extract was then concentrated with vacuum rotary evaporator. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The concentrated extract was then cooled and centrifuged to obtain the precipitate. The precipitate <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> was then tested with 2 dimensional TLC and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry. The result <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> showed only one spot with absorbance at 226 nm. From the result of GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/ <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Mass Spectroscophy) it was suggested that the chemical responsible for its characteristic smell is <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> probably pyrolidine. <br />
