Description
Summary:Metabolic syndrome is a group of complex metabolic disorder which is one of the

risk factors for cardiovascular disease. It consists of central obesity, dyslipidemia,

hypertension, and increase in plasma glucose levels. Raphanus sativus (White

Radish) has been traditionally used to treat a variety of conditions, including

metabolic syndrome. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the

therapeutic activity of white radish bulb juice as an agent of metabolic syndrome in

Danio rerio (zebrafish) induced by high carbohydrate. White Radish Bulbs were

prepared by made white radish juice and dried it using spry dryer with addition of

arabic gum (3%). The test concentration used in this study was 22% (LP1),

47%(LP2), and 97% (LP3). Orlistat 0.5 mM was used as a drug comparison for 40

days. The results showed the body weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) in three

concentrations increased of 66.46%; 55,56%; 54.49% and 23,51%; 15,47%;

16,13% respectively compared to pain control (70.88% and 18.90%). In addition,

the result of several biochemical parameters showed the LP2 group had

significantly lower glucose levels than the pain group. While the LP2 and LP3

groups showed significantly lower triglyceride levels than the pain group. However,

all test groups did not affect the parameters of total cholesterol and High Density

Lipoprotein-C (HDL-C). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that

white radish bulbs showed therapeutic activity in the metabolic syndrome therapy

in zebrafish.
