Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) between 21,500 – 28,500 mg/L. Its high levels of organic material causes the need for treatment prior from discharging the waste to the environment. Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) is one of the technology with high effectivity in reducing organic materials in wastewater. Its principle is by using attached growth. The objective of this research is to know the removal efficiency of organic materials by soluble COD representation with three variants of hydraulic retention time (HRT) in a continuous process. HRT variants used were 25 hours 20 hours and 15 hours in two different reactors. The media acting as a carrier in MBBR were bioballs with specific surface area estimated at 378 m2/m3. The reactors used had a working volume of 3 litres with filling ratio of 15% and anaerobic process. The load of soluble COD in the influent being processed during the operation of reactor was ±10,000 mg/L, referring to the characteristics of palm oil which were previously deposited. After steady state achieved, the removal efficiency of soluble COD obtained during the reactor operation with 25 hours HRT was 23%, 20 hours HRT was 36% and 15 hours HRT was 31,42%.<p align="justify"> |
