This is known as nature-deficit syndrome. (Louv, 2008) The human-nature relationship, which also known as ‘biophilia’ has a very important role for us human to live both physically and mentally healthy. The most crucial time to develop this relationship is during early childhood (White & Vicki, 2008), where kindergarten plays big role in the process of early childhood development. Kindergarten, as a building typology where learn and play takes place, also functions as an architectural form that holds the responsiblility for the cognitive skill of early childhood which are the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Therefore, in response to this issue, thesis proposal seeks to study the kindergarten design that not only connects children to nature but also a design that is integrated with environmental education parallel with the values and design criteria for early childhood development. Classes should be brought into nature and nature should be brought into classes. This is important for the urban young children to have the connection with nature during their early childhood which is already lost due to the rapid urbanization. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Spatial planning and design criteria for early childhood development are further developed and assessed with the principles of biophilic design approach which has 3 categories of design attributes of spaces and architectural qualities as the concept that connects children to nature with early childhood development attributes as guideline. This thesis proposal of green kindergarten in an urban area should not be a school that only connects children to nature but also integrates with the urban surrounding including the local communities to grow healthy towards biophilia. <P align="justify"> text
