While in some urban strategic land is occupied by densely populated settlements, most of which have low infrastructure. To overcome this phenomenon, it needs a settlement development that can integrate with urban development. Most of the development approaches (redevelopment) that have been applied in Indonesia have been displaced from their homes, so they are not enjoying the results of the redevelopment. There is a non-displacement and participatory redevelopment approach, which has been widely applied in Japan. Therefore the purpose of this study is to see how the community responds to the prospects of RCM when applied to the settlement.

The data was obtained from two stages of interview, the first phase was done by close-ended (quantitative) with 66 respondents total, and the second stage interview was conducted open-ended (qualitative) with the total of 12 respondents. Quantitative data is used to describe the overall percentage of occupant responses, whereas qualitative data is used to describe related reasons of the occupant response. The result of the interview is the reason for the refusal or acceptance of the residents, then rewritten into transcript of interview data, then done content analysis to find the keywords from the answers which are then grouped into several categories and sub-categories of response (axial coding). This category group is then analyzed to see the frequency or trends / factors affecting the reason of the occupant's response.

The results of this study are obtained three groups of occupant responses are: positive response group, negative response group, and group of balanced response of occupants. These findings can be used as input for the redesign of the region based on community responses. text
