Description
Summary:

Water is a primary necessity. Water can be utilized to power hydroelectric power plant, irrigate agricultural industries, and as primary resource raw water supply. Building dams can provide those water activities as dams reserve water to be utilized during dry season. The Karian Dam is located on the Ciberang River, Rangkasbitung sub-district, Lebak district, Banten province covering 285.573 km2 of area. The Karian Dam is a 683.2 meters long and 53.2 meters high zonal rock-filled embankment dam with clay as the core. The dam holds and reserve water to irrigate lands. It has 326.3 billion m3 of water capacity with 1985.04 hectare of inundation zone on +69.8 m of elevation above sea level. The probable maximum flood of the dam is 3365.73 m2/s per year. Spillway is one of the important components of dams to drain the excess of water contained. The crest of spillway is ogee shaped. The discharge planning used for the spillway is the PMF discharge with 1047.15 m2/s as the routing recharge during normal water surface phase. 2.5 trillion Rupiahs is needed to build the dam body.
