Dissolution rate test was carried out using paddle apparatus in phosphate buffer of pH 7.2 at 3V-± .0.5 k!s g rate oflOrfpttt within 60 minutes.</p> The quality of those suppositories were characterized by determining their physical characteristics as well as their dissolution rate. The best formulaof oil-soluble base suppository based on the above tests was that containing carnauba wax of 8% and Tween 80 of 3%, and that of water-soluble base was that containing combination of polyethylene glycol 1000 of 30% and polyethylene glycol 4000 of 70%. The dissolution rate of oil-soluble base and water-soluble base suppositories were 81.34 and 92.53%, respectively.</p> , Bioavailability of the dosage forms were determined in six healthy volunteers following cross-over design. Results of bioavailability consisted of Cmax, of Tmax, of AUCo... and of Tin elimination rate with the value for oil-soluble base suppository were 1.34 µg/rnl, 6.67 hours, 136.19 µg hours/ml, and 71,03 hours, respectively, for water-soluble base suppository were 1.53 µg/ml, 6.63 hours, 156.68 µg hours/ml, and 62.39 hours, respectively, and for innovator piroxicam suppository were 1.67 µg/ml, 6,67 hours, 121.16 µg hours/ml, and 43.92 hours, respectively.</p> Bioavailability of the two tested formula were higher than innovator piroxicam suppository but the differences were not significant, except for the water-soluble base formula. text
