Summary: | The HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) separation method using silica columns

modified by amine are widely used, especially in the separation of sugar mixture. In this research,

silica fume column with particle size 325 - 400 mesh have been made. Silica fume was activated with

standard piranha solution, then reacted with 3-APTES, whose diluted in methanol and demineralized

water. FTIR characterization using DRS method showed the presence of a new peak at wavenumber

1650 - 1500 cm-1. That peak is refer to amine functional group and can indicated that the

modification was success. Silica fume modified by amine then tested for separation performance

towards fructose and maltose mixture. Measurements were carried out by the FIA-UV method (Flow

Injection Analysis-Ultraviolet) at wavelength 282 nm. Spectrum analysis showed the separation

between fructose and maltose is happened. Silica fume after modified by amine also showed slimer

peaks than silica fume before modified. |
