REINVENTING PUBLIC SPACE: RESTRUCTURING JL. MARGONDA RAYA CORRIDOR AS A RESPONSE TO PROVIDE PUBLIC SPACE IN DEPOK CITY

Jl. Margonda Raya corridor which located adjacent to DKI Jakarta area, has become the main street and the entrance of Depok City resulting it have to developed not only as a strategic area but also activities generator. The development Jl. Margonda Raya corridor has given positive impacts to the economy growth of Depok City. However, the quality of Jl. Margonda Raya corridor has become poorer due to this development. It can not longer be used as public space to accommodate activities of the community. Considering the importance of street corridor for the urban life, it needed a response to restore the function and meaning of it as public space. Reinventing process with placemaking approach could become one of the responses to restore the function and meaning of Jl. Margonda Raya as public space. Reinventing process can be held by restructuring physical environment of the street corridor to be more attractive and has better quality. There are two main considerations of this idea, to assess the area uses pattern as trade and service function and the function of street corridor as a main street. Hence, the 'segmentation and activity nodes' as the main designing concept to reinvent Jl. Margonda Raya corridor as public space.
