oil mill effluent (POME). POME will be a hazardous waste if no treatment before being discharged into the environment. With high organic content, POME has the
potential to be valuable product. One is to produce ethanol through an anaerobic process. In accelerating the processing of the metal cofactors POME can be added which serves as the activation of enzymes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the addition of Fe (iron), Co (Cobalt) and Mo (molybdenum) on the formation of ethanol from POME anaerobically with 2n factorial statistical methods. Anaerobic process using Circulating Bed Reactor (CBR), which operated in batch and Duplo reactor. The volume of work used in this study was 3.5 L with operating time of 48 hours. Every 12 hours of
observation of the parameters pH, TAV (Total Acid Volatile), VSS (Volatile Suspended Solid), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) dissolved and ethanol in eight conditions of the metal used. In general, the pH will decline from hour 0 until the 24 hours operation and increased . The highest COD removal with the addition of Mo metal with an efficiency of 75% at reactors 1 and 76% in reactor 2. The highest ethanol concentration after 48 hours obtained with the addition of metallic Fe and Mo in single condition is 9253.8 mg / L. The combination of Fe-Mo and Fe-Co-Mo will give effect to ethanol formation by 2n factorial statistical method. |
