Description
Summary:
Injection molding is a polymer manufacturing process with high productivity and flexibility. The mold design does evolve to overcome the defects in the molded products. Warpage is one type of defect that causes deflection on the component, resulting in changes in dimensions and components cannot be assembled. In 2015, there has been a case of warpage on top case component which is made by PT Pyojoon Mold Indonesia. An accurate prediction of shrinkage and warpage components is needed to solve the problem. In this case study, the top case component with the amorphous type material was used as an object of warpage repair using numerical analysis. The injection process in the top case is simulated using Mold Analysis and Plastic Solution-3 Dimension (MAPS-3D) software to minimize the frequency of trial and error in the actual injection process. This study discusses the identification of warpage causal factors, mold design improvement methods, and optimization of injection process parameters with Taguchi Method until minimum warpage is achieved.
