One of the most effective geophysical methods for obtaining subsurface imagery in marine regions is the Ground Penetrating Radar method. This method identifies the electromagnetic wave response of the medium with contrasting electromagnetic properties compared to the surrounding medium. These electromagnetic properties include dielectric permittivity, conductivity and magnetic permeability. This study aims to identify the presence of unforeseen objects and geological features in the shallow marine region of Balikpapan. Measurements conducted on sea’s surface consisting of two North-South lines and six East-West lines using IDIS RIS TR unshielded equipment with 40 MHz frequency antenna. Forward modeling of GPR data is used to support data acquisition and interpretation using Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method. The results of forward modeling are correlated with acquisition data to obtain the position of object. The diffraction pattern, reverberation and contrast amplitude values on the radargram indicate the presence of a particular object.<p align="justify"> text |
