Molybdenum is the most studied transition metal at the topic of oxygen atom <br /> <br /> reaction, especially in the phosphine oxygenation and olefin epoxidation preocess. <br /> <br /> Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex of diethyldithiocarbamate is known as a reactive complex in <br /> <br /> catalyzing oxidation of phosphine to phosphine oxide. Besides dioxomolybdenum(VI) <br /> <br /> complex of diethyldithiocarbamate, oxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of <br /> <br /> diethydithiocarbamate is also well-studied in phosphine oxidation. Nonetheless, there are few <br /> <br /> study regarding the reactivity of dioxo and oxomolybdenum(VI) group of <br /> <br /> diethyldithiocarbamate on the olefin epoxidation. Herein, we investigated the reactivity of <br /> <br /> dioxo and oxomolybdenum(VI) group of diethyldithiocarbamate on epoxidation reactions <br /> <br /> employing tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and molecular O2 as the oxidant. The results of <br /> <br /> the study revealed that both type of the oxomolybdenum(VI) complexes performed weakly in <br /> <br /> catalyzing ethyl oleate epoxidation with both oxidants and performed moderately in <br /> <br /> catalyzing ring-opening epoxide (olefin dihydroxylation) reaction in the presence of water. <br /> <br /> Reaction mechanism study on olefin epoxidation using TBHP as the oxidant by FT-IR, 1H <br /> <br /> NMR and Vis-Nir analysis show the possibility of an existence of a similar active species <br /> <br /> produced by all-three complexes of oxomolybdenum(VI) diethyldithiocarbamate. text
