Description
Summary:Water hyacinth is an aquatic plant that mostly grown in rivers, swamps, rice fields, and other areas. This plant grows rapidly that it could block the flow and accelerate siltation. Water Hyacinth can highly damage the aquatic ecosystem if it’s left abandoned, it can caused enviromental pollution by killing fishes, shrink the water volume, caused sedimentation problem, and so forth. One of the ways to solve this problem is to utilize water hyacinth as an alternative raw material. Whether it is for fuel, compost, even for textile.

Either start-up or well-developed company such as KBB Cililin and Ridaka Tenun are developing water hyacinth as product as a craft product as an environmental emporwerment effort. However, the lack of material knowledgment, techniques, compositions, colors, and product design, make the product they produced lack in variative and less appealing to consumens in general. Therefore, this research goals is to solve those problems and to increase water hyacinth potention as textile material alternative by using tapestry techniques to enhance it’s uniqueness and add more aestethic value as future product.
