Especially for the people who live in Bandung Basin. The increase of human activities in this river basin has led to environmental degradation such as the degradation of the river ecosystem quality. Recent study showed that Upper Citarum River has been polluted by domestic and industrial wastewater, such as organic material, metals, chemical and even pathogenic bacteria that indicated by the presence of E. coli and and Salmonella sp. The contamination of pathogenic bacteria and industrial pollutant had a potency to disturbed the indigenous bacterial community such as Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) that has an important role in phosphorus cycling. The observation of contamination level and the distribution of PSB community in Upper Citarum River had been conducted in 6 locations. The measurement of physicochemical parameters showed that contamination level tended to increase at downstream. The highest E. coli contamination has been found in S5 (Nanjung) of 4,6 x 108 MPN/g and the highest number of suspected Salmonella was found at S4 (Cilampeni). Meanwhile, the abundance of PSB tended to be fluctuated in 6 locations. The highest abundance was found in S5 (Nanjung) of 11,8 x 108CFU/g and the lowest abundance was found in S1 (Spring) of 36 x 105 CFU/g. There were 13 isolates that have been identified. Futher observations had been conducted to understand how the pollutions level in sediment and the contaminations of E. coli influenced the PSB’s community by doing interaction test (microcosm test). There were 4 variations of E. coli concentrations and 3 sediment variations. Statistical analysis results showed that the variations of E.coli concentration showed a significant influence to the decrease of PSB’s abundance.<p align="justify"> text
