Description
Summary:Milling machine is a type of machine tool that has ability to conduct machining process of a product. A product with certain standard can be mode using a particular type of machine tool. Stiffness and deformation are important factors to determine precision level of a machine tool. The stiffness of a machine tool depends on many factors, one of which is the joint on the structure.

The joint on the structure of machine tool will lower stiffness of the machine. This can affect the quality of the product. Therefore, analysis of the joint is needed in order to find out the effect of the joint on the stiffness. The analysis was done using static load simulation on joint of column VMC 500 with several variations.

The first simulation was performed to compare the stiffness of VMC 500 structure with joint and without joint. The results showed that bolt joint on column and bed VMC 500 lower the stiffness more than any other joints on column VMC 500. After that, simulation was conducted on bolt joint by varying the quantity and the diameter of the bolts. Furthermore, the simulation was conducted by varying the height of the cut and cutting orientation of the joint on the column VMC 500. This simulation was conducted in order to see if production process can be simplified by reducing the size of the column. The results of the simulation can be used as reference to see the effect of the joint in several conditions on the stiffness of the machine tool, especially VMC 500.
