Description
Summary:
LNG must be converted into gas phase through regasification process before it can be utilized as fuel. Floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) is a regasification facility installed on board a ship or barge. Indonesia has been operating 3 units of FSRU in Lampung, teluk Jakarta, and Benoa and planned to have 50 additional FSRU units to be spread on various locations. Yet, Indonesia is still unable to build its own FSRU. In order to build a competence on designing and building FSRU, the design of FSRU in Benoa is reviewed based on NR 645, a classification standard for FSRU released by Bureau Veritas. Ship stability is a part of FSRU design criteria that needs to be reviewed. The stability of FSRU Benoa is simulated using Maxsurf Stability software according to criteria set in NR 645. The simulation results show that FSRU Benoa comply with intact stability criteria and stability criteria during lifting operation. FSRU Benoa also fulfill damage stability criteria provided that no transvers bulkhead is assumed to be damaged. When the bulkhead is assumed to be damaged as in NR 645 local damage case, FSRU Benoa fails to comply. Furthermore, FSRU Benoa also fails to survive assumed collision damage to its fore compartments.
