Research on Paleotsunami in the south of Java is still rare. Regional Kutoarjo, Purworejo chosed as the location to correlate the paleotunami deposition based on studies that have been done before in Pangandaran, Cilacap, and South Banten. A hand drill sample in depth of two meters with a code JT-11 is the object of the study. The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of Paleotsunami deposits based granulometri analysis, x-ray fluorescence and Lost on Ignition (LoI) method and also from the analysis of diatoms distribution in the sediment layer. <br /> <br /> Kutoarjo area had experienced tsunami that produce sediment in the swale areas. There is one unit of paleotsunami deposit with silt sized at a depth of 95-135 cm. Based on the grainsize analysis, the layer is white-gray-silt sized, 4.079 phi - 6.349 phi in average and dominated by the size of medium silt to very coarse silt with unimodal pattern of frequency curves. The sortation is well sorted to poorly sorted. Based on the XRF analysis, Ca and Sr elements are abundant. It indicates that the layer is composed by material from marine environment and then deposited in the terrestrial environment because of huge transports energy in the form of tsunami. From LoI analysis shows significantly decrease in organic material percentage despite of increasing carbonate material percentage in the candidate layer. Based on the diatom analysis there are increasing number of sea and brackish diatom in the candidate layer. High number of broken shells in the specimen also indicates there is intensive clash because of the tsunami. <br /> <p align="justify"> text |
