HYDROGEOCHEMICAL STUDY OF THE FORMATION OF IRON IN BORROW PIT AREA OF MINAS FIELD, PEKANBARU, RIAU PROVINCE

<p align="justify">Borrow Pit Area is located in Minas Field. There are some layers of iron oxide found in this area. There have been many research on the Minas Field. However, there is no research that discussed about formation of iron. This study aims to determine of the formation of iron in the Borrow Pit Area based on geological, hydrogeological, and hydrogeochemical approaches. Based on field survey there are three springs, five dug wells, two rivers and six boreholes in the Borrow Pit Area. The hydrogeochemical data were taken form in situ measurements consisting of temperature, pH, TDS, EH, conductivity; and laboratory measurements consisting of major ion, iron concentrations in water and solid samples (using X-Ray Difraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)).The concentration of the iron in the groundwater samples ranged from 0.01 – 44.7 mg/L. The pH values of the groundwater samples ranged from 3.68 to 7.56. The results of XRD, XRF and SEM analysis of iron samples showed that iron samples contained goethite (FeOOH) and quartz minerals with 76,9 mass % of iron content. The drilling core description also confirmed that in the Borrow Pit Area there is sand which contains of mafic mineral, iron oxide and quartz.<p align="justify">
