DERMAL EXPOSURE OF PESTICIDES AND ITS EFFECT ON CHOLINESTERASE IN AGRICULTURE WORKERS (Case Study: Desa Cibeureum, Kecamatan Kertasari)

Pesticides spraying application can potentially expose to farmers through dermal because of its availability to be absorbed by skin. Organophosphates and carbamtes which enter the body have a risk to cause acute toxicity i.e cholinesterase inhibition. The purpose of this research is to analyze exposure and health effect relationship, by measuring dermal exposure of farmers to estimate uptake dose and cholinesterase in blood plasma. The mixture of pesticides used by farmers contained organophosphates and carbamates such as diazinon, fenitrothion, methidathion, malathion, chlorpyrifos, parathion, profenofos, carbofuran, MIPC and BPMC. The highest average uptake dose comes from profenofos exposure with 3,1 x 10-3 ± 5.4 x 10-3 mg / kg-day and the lowestone comes from fenitrothion exposure with 1 x 10-4 ± 3.3 x 10-4 mg / kg-day. Based on this research, 72.45% of exposed farmers had an unsafe risk of suffering on cholinesterase decrease. Based on this research, 1 out of 29 exposed farmers has abnormal cholinesterase level. However, mean of cholinesterase in exposed group is still lay on the normal level compare to control. Based on statistics test, the uptake dose of diazinon, fenitrothion, parathion, profenofos and BPMC had a significant correlation (p <0.05) with cholinesterase decrease. text
