Resting and nest building are basic skills which

orangutan needs before they are released. This study aims to determine time allocation of

resting and nest building, composition, preference, and carrying capacity based on resting and

nesting tree of orangutans in Juq Kehje Sewen Island. Time allocation is determined by focal

animal sampling, composition determined by vegetation analysis, the preference determined

by Neu method which based on diameter, architectural type, and spesies name. Meanwhile, the

carrying capacity is determined by the availability and the needs of resting and nesting tree in

the island. The resting percentage showed 43,96% and the nest building is 0,24%. The highest

density of resting and nesting tree provide by the 10 – 20 cm diameter trees which showed the

9,67% percentage and Pterospermum javanicum with the 5% lowest density. The resting and

nesting tree preferences are represented by the more than 10cm-diameter of Dracontomelon

dao and Pterospermum javanicum trees. And also supported by the Rauh architectural type,

such as Pterospermum javanicum species tree. The carrying capacity of the resting and nesting

tree are 8 individuals for orangutan- rehabilitant or 4 individuals for the wild-orangutan, it is

caused by the less of availability and use of resting and nesting tree orangutan rehabilitation in

Juq Kehje Sewen Island. text
