Activity of the snails as a preventive and gastric ulcer treatment was tested

by pharmacological testing in acetosal-induced rats.

Rat-peptic ulcer model was induced with acetosal 405 mg/kg body weight for 10

days. In the preventive test, induction was performed 1 hour after administration

of treatment. In the curative test, induction was done for 10 days then continued

treatment for 3 days. Each test consisted of 9 groups. Normal group was given

only 1% CMC solution, the control group was given acetosal, the comparison

group was given drug suspension (sucralfate dose of 90 mg/kg in preventive test,

lansoprazole dose of 5 mg/kg on curative test), the test group was given total meat

the snails doses of 3.310 g/kg and 6.620 g/kg, meat without rectum doses of 2.430

g/kg and 4.860 g/kg, rectal doses of 0.790g/kg and 1.580 g/kg. Parameter test

were based on index ulcer, pH gastric and gastrohistopathology.

The preventive and curative studies showed that peptic ulcer index in rats of the

test group were lower than the control group without significant difference (p>

0.05), gastric pH measurements showed no significant difference in each

treatment group and the result of histopathology of the test group showed

repaired cell in the gastric mucosa. It can be concluded that rice field snail had

anti-peptic ulcer activity both preventively and curatively.
text
