The production processes of 2-Ethyl Hexanol are commercially produced by the Oxo process with propylene and syngas as raw material through the formation of 2-Ethyl Hexanal as an intermediate. 2-Ethyl Hexanal then hydrogenated to 2-Ethyl Hexanol. The commercial catalyst that used for the hydrogenation process is usually nickel (Ni) based. To meet the needs of those catalyst, Indonesia still has to import from other country. This is the reason that encourage the development of the nickel-based catalyst used for hydrogenation process of 2-Ethyl Hexenal in Indonesia. <br /> <br /> This research aims to synthesize the catalyst for the hydrogenation of 2-Ethyl Hexenal to produce 2-Ethyl Hexanol with nickel based and also with the loading of Cu and K metal which embedded to phosphate alumina (AlP3) support to create the catalyst with good activity (conversion, selectivity). The variation has been done in this research covers the metal loading composition for Ni (10% and 20%), Cu (5% and 10%), and K (0,1% and 0,5%). The synthesis of catalysts has been done with dry impregnation method. Then, we will analyze the effect of Cu and K metal loading as catalyst promoter to the catalyst activity with statistic study. <br /> <br /> The results showed that the effect of Cu and K metal loading is very significant to the catalyst activity especially to the increase of reaction selectivity to 2-Ethyl Hexanol product. From the statistic study, we got the best composition for hydrogenation catalyst based from Ni with Cu dan K as promoter is Ni 20%, Cu 2,97%, and K 0,9% to achieve best result in activity which is conversion 99,99% and selectivity 99,77%. <p align="justify"> text |
