Description
Summary:Gyratory's compaction variations are a certain process in asphalt mixtures design. The performance of compaction using Gyratory Testing Machine (GTM) is determined by three main factor's, i.e. : angle of gyration, speed of gyration, and axial force of gyration. This research purposes are to examine and have a look in identify the influence of angle and speed of gyrations in performance of compaction and workability index, to compare and to determine the correlation beetwen compaction values. The research was started from making samples mixture using asphalt contents of 5.0%, 5.5%, 6.0%, 6.5%, and 7.0%, which were compacted using three variations of Marshall compaction method and six variations of gyratory method. Twenty-one design of asphalt mixtures within optimum asphalt content, were tested in Marshall Immersion Test. The results show that Marshall compaction method has a lower flow and stability values comparing to the gyratory method, other parameters show the same thing. Index retained of stability (IRS) values show that the effect of compaction method was not significantly to the durability of asphalt concrete mitures. Workability index value was not only affected by binder content in the asphalt mixtures, but also by compaction method.
