In 2013, Indonesia's palm oil production contribute for 50% world total production. Palm oil consists of triglycerides which have double bond structure C=C (olefin) and can be converted to an epoxide. Epoxide Palm Oil (EPO) can be used as plasticizers, polymer stabilizers, and bio-lubricants. Epoxidation reaction need oxygen atom donor in epoxide formation such as peroxide compound. Catalyst design proposed transition metals with an oxophilic and have multivalent complex number. Vanadium oxide (V2O5) used as vanadium source in this research. Schiff's base and β-diketonate used as ligand. Synthesis of ligand used procedure which was be reported. Complex was synthesized with mix ligand and oxovanadium (IV) from an reduction from vanadium(V). Oxovanadium(IV) complex is an paramagnetic compound so that this complex can't be characterized with 1H NMR and characterization only use FTIR (ʋ V=O : 996 cm-1, ʋ C=O : 1528 cm-1, ʋ C=N : 1615 cm-1). Catalytic test with react Fatty Acid Ethyl Ester (FAEE) as olefin source, complex, H2O2 30% and formic acid during 6 h and 24 h in 60 ℃. A product from the reaction was characterized with Gas Chromatography. A new chromatogram peak suspected an epoxide in retention time at min. 23. This is supported by the change ratio of chromatogram area oleic (linoleic) and palmitic decreased.
text
