Description
Summary:Hypertension is a condition when blood pressure in blood vessels increases

chronically. This is a high prevalence health problem, which is 25.8%. In society,

Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume leaves are common for kidney stones, diabetic,

diuretics. This study aims to study Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume leaf extract in

the treatment of hypertension. Testing of antihypertensive effects was carried out

using indirect measurements in male Wistar rats using a set of Kent Scientific's

CODA systems and induction using epinephrine 0.5 mg / kg bw. Tests were also

carried out by using a frog to see information on heart contractions which were

induced by 2.9 x 10

-3

mL norepinephrine. Extract test dose to test the

antihypertensive effect of hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract, ethanol extract and

water extract respectively 100 mg /kg bw and the comparison used bisoprolol 0.9

mg / kg bw to concentrate the heart of frogs, hexane extract, ethyl acetate extract ,

ethanol extract and water extract respectively 0.22 mg / ml. The results showed that

Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume leaf extract possessed antihypertensive activity by

reducing diastolic blood pressure and systole on all test extracts. The ethyl acetate

extract of Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume leaves at a dose of 100 mg / kg bw gave

the best results with a percent inhibition of increased diastolic and systolic blood

pressure which was 20.28% and 19.05% and had a higher inhibitory ability than the

bisoprolol group 0.9 mg / kg bw but statistically the equivalence between the

comparison group and ethyl acetate extract of Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume

leaves was 100 mg / kg bw. Strobilanthes crispa (L.) Blume leaf ethyl acetate extract

produced the best reduction in heart rate frequency from the test extract group with

a decrease value of 43.72%. Ethyl acetate extract has statistically similar meanings

(P> 0.05) to the comparative drug group of bisoprolol so as to enable ethyl acetate

extract to be developed as an antihypertensive drug with beta blocking mechanism

while hexane, ethanol and water extracts with other mechanisms as

antihypertension.
