Description
Summary:
Waipoga Basin is one of many basin in North Papua. Many research have been done by the government or private agency. One of formation of rocks that role as reservoir rocks is Makats Formation. Research discuss tectonic environment that form this formation hasn’t been done before. One of method that divine the tectonic environment which is conducted is provenance. Provenance interpreted the tectonic environment based on mineral fragment composition on the rocks. This method is not just using the Petrography analysis, but can be approached by the major elements analysis. Petrography analysis were conducted to classify the type of rocks on the sample. Based on Petrography analysis on 15 samples, there are 2 type of rocks can be classified that is Metamorphic Litharenite and Metamorphic Lithic wacke. The result on samples shows that the source rocks of samples is on the type of Recycled Orogenic and Transitional Arc provenance. The following result by distinguished the mineral fragment, shows the tectonic environment that form the Makats Fm. is Collision Suture Belt and Fold Thrust Belt sources Major elements approach were conducted to provide more information that form Makats Fm. The major elements value on samples are produced from SEM/EDX measurement within the plagioclase mineral. The result shows the magmatic series of samples are high K calc – alkaline series. This series can be found only in continental crust.
