Water is one of the reactants in the AMD formation process and also as a medium that "cleanses" or dissolves the oxidation results. Water sources can be in the form of rainwater or groundwater runoff. AMD is an important environmental impact of mining activities, both ore and coal mining. The impact of AMD can damage the ecosystem in the mining area and become a post-mining burden if it is not managed properly.

The formation of AMD is a result of mining activities that are definitely formed or cannot be completely prevented. Therefore, processing technology is needed for AMD so that it meets environmental quality standards in accordance with the applicable legislation. Active processing technology is one system for processing AMD. This technology is suitable to be applied in the exploration and production-operation stages because it requires active control and management by humans of the operation and maintenance of the processing system. In the application of this technology requires neutralizing materials which are generally chemicals. The neutralizing material used in the tests was based on calcium and sodium, namely CaO (setpond), CaO (nursery), CaO (control), and NaOH. To determine the effectiveness of neutralizing ingredients in the processing of AMD samples used, titration tests, jar tests, water quality tests (physical tests, Induced Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectometry, Ion Chromatography) and elemental tests (X-Ray Fluoresence) were carried out.

Based on these tests, obtained the characteristics of AMD samples and neutralizing materials to determine the effect of sample characteristics on the effectiveness of AMD sample processing. The AMD sample used has not met the parameters of pH, Fe, and Mn in the quality standard. Therefore, a dose of CaO (set) is 540 mg / L, CaO (nursery) 500 mg / L, CaO (control) 500 mg / L, and NaOH 400 mg / L in AAT sample processing. The need for neutralizing materials and the design of the required settling ponds are designed according to the test results. The biggest need for neutralizing ingredients for a year is produced by CaO (nursery) and CaO (control) of 4,320,000 kg per year.

text
