Summary: | The ever increasing oil and gas consumption for industrial needs and for fueling vehicles may have threatened Indonesia’s energy security. Thus, in attempt to tackle the issue, the government have initiated several studies, field trials and drilling for developing unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs such as coalbed methane reservoir. With the coalbed methane resources estimated to be around 450 TCF, Indonesia may have recoverable coalbed methane reservoir of 50 TCF. Therefore, developing coalbed methane reservoir may become an alternative to enhance the gas production in Indonesia. Stevens (2004) had showed that Indonesia’s coal basins are vary from the thick coal seams in South and Central Sumatera basins to the much thinner coal seams in Borneo, Java and Sulawesi. Indonesia’s coal deposits are considered not prospective due to the low coal rank and the low permeability. After the success of horizontal well completion in the development of low permeability CBM in Qinshui (China), Arkoma and Appalachian (USA) basins, it is then needed a study for applying the technology for the development of CBM reservoirs in Indonesia. This study will use reservoir simulation to create several models with different horizontal well completion methods. A set of parameters which are the maximum gas rate, cumulative gas production, time required to reach maximum producing rate and recovery factor of each methods will then be compared and analyzed. The analysis will then be used to identify the best horizontal well completion metode for the CBM reservoir model |
