Summary: |
Microgrid system is a small scale system that located near the customer. It can be operated in low voltage distribution and with or without the utility grid. The MG concept helps in reducing the expenditure by reducing network congestion & line losses. MG concept is mainly used in rural areas when there is no access to connect with utility grid. Customer demand for new generation capacities and efficient energy production, distribution, and utilization keeps rising due to the rapid increase in global energy consumption and the diminishing of fossil fuels. Microgrid concept has the potential to solve major problems arising from large penetration of distributed generation (DG) in distribution systems.
Some microgrid systems at rural areas (islands) in Indonesia are using diesel generator as the main power supply due to geographical conditions that make it difficult to supply the islands with utility grid. Along with technology developments, some renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PV) are begun to be integrated in these microgrids along with the diesel generators. This research is focusing to determine a suitable control for this condition in order to make a load sharing between diesel generator and the PVs using droop control method.
|
