Summary: |
Light Rail Transit (LRT) or light rail as an alternative solution for urban mobility problems, because it has advantages over other ground transportation modes in high capacity and free traffic. In the design process of LRT produced by PT. INKA, a fatigue analysis is required to the bogie frame. During the operation, the bogie works to sustain the entire weight of train and passengers with fluctuating load conditions. The analysis of fatigue in the bogie aims to ensure that bogie frame don’t have fatigue failure during in operational technical lifespan.

Fatigue analysis was accordance to load case by Standard UIC 615 - 4 (Motive Power Unit - Bogies and Running Gear - Bogie Frame Structure Strength Test, Static Test in Main Services Load), using the software of the finite element method (ANSYS Workbench 17.1). Based on this standards, the stress result in each combination of loading is used to determine the maximum and minimum principal stress. This results of the analysis are presented in the Goodman - Smith diagram as the criterion of fatigue failure.

From static analysis in extreme case, obtained that result of maximum and minimum principal stress (114,65 MPa and -147,28 MPa). With the criteria in the Goodman - Smith diagram, with the endurance limit (158,23 MPa) for bogie frame’s material JIS G3106 (SM490 A), it can be concluded that the LRT bogie frame is believed don’t have fatigue failure while operated in normal operating load.
