Description
Summary:Acid fracturing as a means of well stimulation, has been successful in increasing productivity especially in carbonate reservoir. This technique usually requires injecting pad fluid above formation parting pressure to create fracture on the formation. Acid is then injected to the formation and etch the fracture face which will create fracture conductivity. This resulting acid etched conductivity play a major role on the final productivity.

This study modifies a well-known proppant fracture optimization method of “Unified Fracture Design” (UFD) to be applied in acid fracturing optimization. This method evaluates optimum facture geometry based on the productivity obtained for a certain amount of acid injected. Unlike hydraulic fracturing, where fracture conductivity is well represented by proppant conductivity, this study modeled acid fracture conductivity using Nierode and Kruk correlation (1973).

Evaluation on the optimum acid fracture geometry is performed for various parameter. The result shows that UFD method ensures selection of optimal fracture configuration which will result in optimal productivity index. Furthermore, accurate acid fracture conductivity model is highly important in determining optimum fracture design. Inaccurate acid fracturing conductivity will result in suboptimal fracture configuration, which will create loss in possible productivity index achieved.
