Description
Summary:In most large scale production organizations, the scope of works involves a variety of activfities that are widespread in time and space, and are interconnected. In such a situation, the functioning of information technology is expected to facilitate the performance enhancement of the entire organization. Nevertheless, the practices in the functioning of information technology in large scale organizations often face obstacles that are related to the problem in cooperation among relevant actors.

By using qualitative explorative research techniques, it was conducted to dig the two selected general applications in Ministry of Public Works (TNDE and SIGI) to obtain an overview of the implementation in the work. The concept of common information space from the Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) approach, then applied to analyze the scope of works using the applications which is the object of information technology as a tool. The relation of the agents that lie within the common information space are traced before and after the application is used and visualized through the actor network.

It is found that sustained efforts are needed to build mutual understanding among the actors. In addition to technical factors related to feature specifications and tools, it is necessary to consider non-technical factors such as training/socialization, as well as the condition of social organizational relations in the planning and development of information technology.

Keywords: information technology, cooperative work, common information space, CSCW, ANT
