Description
Summary:
Regional study of Tarakan basin has been done to integrate all the oil and gas blocks simultaneously. It aimed to confirm the geological elements which is associated with the properties, the boundaries, the thickness or depth of the basin using the interpreted airborne gravity.

Generally, data processing has been done to improve the quality of airborne gravity data with conducting topography effect correction without separating bouguer and terrain correction. Topography effect correction calculation was estimated by doing forward modeling using MATLAB software R2015a version which result is validated by the common and established software such as GRAV3D and Geosoft Oasis Montaj 8.4 version.

Rectangular prism modelling for topography correction of airborne gravity has some advantages compared to slab bouguer plus terrain method. That advantages is caused by removing the assumption that the slab is homogeny and the area is infinite and also including the distance factor of all the masses into the topography correction count.

The result of the processing is the residual anomaly map and derivative map show some lineaments which associated with some certain geological feature. The boundary of sub-basins in Tarakan basin can be obtained from this lineaments. In the end, the indication of the existence of a new sub-basins is delivered. Furthermore,to define the thickness of the sediment 2D forward modelling is then performed. The result shows the thickness of the sediment in Tarakan area is vary from 0 m in the western until 9000 m in eastern of the area.
