Summary: | The construction of elevated highway infrastructure mostly adopt prefabricated elements for the upper structure which in this research is box girder type. The use of prefabricated elements produced offsite then involves many parties and consists of several series of activities that are integrated in a supply chain. According to Koskela (2000), even in a normal situations, the construction supply chain has a large quantity of problems and waste. Waste identified in this research is delay and inventory. Both of these can lead to low productivity as cycle times become longer and may also affect both increasing cost and project delays. Lean Construction principle can help solve the problem because lean principle basically maximize value and minimize waste in supply chain. The identification of five Lean Construction principles according to Womack and Jones (1996) is value, value stream, flow, pull, and perfection is carried out to identify the supply chain of box girder of Simpang Susun Semanggi Project. <br />

The results of identification indicate that there are some lean principles that are unintentionally applied in Simpang Susun Semanggi Project. The description of the supply chain Box girder from the design process to the installation is modeled in one of the Lean Construction tools that is Value stream Mapping as Tommelein has done, 1999. The supply chain condition that was happened then modeled in cyclone as has been done by Tommelein in his other research. The simulation result using cyclone shows that the productivity increase from the initial condition (with pull system applied) to the improvement condition (with pull system and perfection applied) that is 0.42 Box girder / day to 0.67 girder box / day. It shows that with the implementation of the last Lean Construction principle “perfection” that “perfection” can increase “flow” from supply chain itself. Elevated highway project is highly awaited by road users to be able to break down the bottleneck. Installing the upper structure on open traffic conditions and designing the upper structure has a high complexity because the form of hyperbolic highways increases the challenge for its Stakeholders. The type of project delivery 'Design Build' also identified benefits in this study which in turn can help the application of Lean Construction to reduce waste. |
