EFFECT OF STORAGE IN BAMBOO FRUIT STORAGE CHAMBER (FSC) COMBINED WITH ETHYLENE-DEGRADING MATERIAL TIO2-MN TO THE RIPENING OF CAVENDISH BANANA Musa acuminata COLLA (AAA GROUP)

Banana is a climacteric fruit, meaning that the fruit will continue to ripen after it is harvested. This poses a risk of banana ripening too soon during shipping and arriving in a rotten state. To solve this problem, a method of storage is needed to facilitate delay ripening in a practical way. In t...

This poses a risk of banana ripening too soon during shipping and arriving in a rotten state. To solve this problem, a method of storage is needed to facilitate delay ripening in a practical way. In this study, the photocatalytic ability of Mn-doped TiO2 as ethylene-degrading agent was investigated. The potential use of bamboo storage chamber (FSC) as a simple atmosphere-modifying storage was also investigated. The effect of TiO2-Mn and FSC combinations to the physiological changes during banana ripening was assessed. Based on the parameters of ethylene accumulation, ethylene production rate, and starch bioconversion, the use of both TiO2-Mn and FSC combined was the best storage option. On the other hand, the use of either TiO2-Mn only or FSC only gave poor results based on the same aforementioned parameters. Storage in FSC only especially resulted in a less attractive color and soft texture with a well-liked taste. text
