DESIGN OF A PALM OIL SOLID WASTE PROCESSING FACILITY AT PT PERKEBUNAN NUSANTARA VIII

PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII has 2 oil palm factories and one of them is Palm Oil Mill (POM) Cikasungka. Cikasungka Palm Mill stands on an area of 12 Ha and has a garden area of 3,520.16 Ha. With average fresh fruit bunches processed per day to reach 300,000 tons. With the large amount of processing...

With the large amount of processing each day generation of solid waste is also large. Solid waste produced in the form of empty palm oil bunches. This waste will be produced as much as 23% of the total FFB that is processed so that every day will produce an average of 73 tons of empty bunch waste. Based on Law No. 36 of 2009 on health aimed at realizing the quality of a healthy environment, both physical, chemical, biological and social and Law No. 32 of 2009 on environmental protection and management that prohibits to dispose of waste to environmental media, and Law number 18 year 2008 on waste management then before the waste is discharged into the environment then the waste must get the processing in the form of changing the characteristics, composition and the amount of waste. Currently PKS Cikasungka still do the buildup of solid waste in the garden that should be processed first. This design aims to provide an alternative solution in the planning and development of a bunch of empty solid waste management system to reduce the bad impact on environment and health referring to the above mentioned Law. Design and development will begin with the characterization of the resulting solid wastes and potential utilization that can be done to reduce the volume of solid waste discharged to the plantation area and the resulting impact to the environment. Based on the characterization done by solid waste sample test in laboratory, it is found that the calorific value contained in solid waste is still high enough and potentially to be reused as reusable fuel by industry. Based on the selected scenarios, the solid waste reduction potential is 72%. The results of the design of the processing facility can provide a reduction of the amount of waste poured into the environment and may produce fuel which can then be reused as boiler fuel for the production process or then sold to a third party in accordance with the Refused Derivied Fuel standards. In addition the technology also produced organic compost that can be used in the plantation area.

text
